How the rate is split
Sales tax in LA is several taxes stacked together, each created by a different law. The state takes the biggest piece for its own budget. A slice goes to the County for mental health, social services and public safety programs the state handed to counties. The City gets one cent of every dollar. Voters added four half-cent taxes for Metro, a half cent for homelessness and housing in 2024 (Measure A), and a half cent for County health care that started October 1, 2026 (Measure ER).
